Robert Self-Pierson has a nice little observation about collaboration and goodwill over on his blog, in which he mentions Novak Djokovic’s acceptance speech after winning the Australian Open last month, acknowledging that even an apparently individual sport like tennis is really the result of a team effort.

Kate of needled wrote a very touching thank you to her readers for a scarf they made her while she was in the hospital last year.  The scarf was a collaboration between a group of fellow knitters — some of whom knew her well, others who only followed the blog — and it’s not only a lovely exquisite corpse of a scarf, it’s also a testament to how powerful a statement such a joint effort can make.  Kate, who is a scholar in addition to a knitter, draws parallels between this kind of blog-inspired project and 18th Century transatlantic gift books.  Very interesting — and heart-warming!
