I hope that this response to Susan Holl-Jensen’s photograph, “Fallingwater,” is not too late for Call #4, but I just learned about your project through Duotrope. I live and write in New Jersey, and I have written and published many poems based on works of modern art. This is my first about a man-made structure.
Fallingwater
(after a summer residence by Frank Lloyd Wright, 1934-37)
An artifice of the land
In Pennsylvania soil
Cut from the hills and trees
Maple, oak and hickory
Where waterfall and streams
Flow through limestone tiers;
A home at home with
Cantilevered terraces
Concrete outcropping of
A sandstone face
Reflecting perfect harmony
With time and place.
Neil, we wanted to let you know that we’ll be featuring your poem in Tuesday’s post. Thanks so much for participating!
